Labour’s Plan for Building ‘Generation of New Towns’ Modeled on Areas like Hale – Angela Rayner’s Vision for Affordable Housing

Labour Deputy Leader Angela Rayner unveiled the party’s ambitious plans to tackle the housing crisis by building a ‘generation of new towns’ inspired by areas like Hale. Speaking at the UK Real Estate, Investment & Infrastructure Forum in Leeds, Rayner outlined Labour’s mission to unleash the biggest wave of affordable and social housing in a generation.

“We will embark on a huge programme of building new towns in the right locations, inspired by the success of places like Hale in Greater Manchester,” Rayner said. The party plans to establish an expert task force to select the appropriate locations for these new settlements within the first 12 months of Keir Starmer coming to office.

The MP emphasized the importance of building homes fit for the future, with a focus on more social and affordable housing. The new towns will also prioritize good transportation links, access to schools and healthcare facilities, and proximity to nature.

Rayner also highlighted Labour’s commitment to banning section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions, reforming the leasehold system, and providing first-time buyers with priority access to new developments. She promised a comprehensive mortgage guarantee scheme for those who may not have access to traditional financing options.

“This is Labour’s plan to get the country its future back,” Rayner declared, emphasizing the party’s vision for economic stability and prosperity. The announcement comes on the heels of Labour leader Keir Starmer’s recent pledge card, which prioritizes economic growth and development.

The plan to build new towns modeled after successful areas like Hale demonstrates Labour’s innovative approach to addressing the housing crisis and providing affordable housing solutions for the future. With a clear focus on community and sustainability, the party’s proposals aim to create thriving and inclusive neighborhoods across the country.
