Lottery Winner Sells Home Without Partner’s Consent: Fraudster Ordered to Pay Compensation

Man Ordered to Pay Ex-Partner £1,500 After Fraudulently Selling Home They Won in Lottery

A heartwarming tale turned sour when Kevin Scott, 47, fraudulently sold a house he had purchased with his girlfriend, Fiona Young, after they won £20,000 on a lottery scratchcard. The couple’s names were placed on the deeds of the property in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, only for Scott to betray Young’s trust by secretly selling the house for £45,000 without her consent.

The scheme came to light when Young discovered the unauthorized sale and alerted the authorities. It was later revealed that Scott had forged Young’s identity when completing the sale, with the proceeds going into his mother’s account and a friend receiving a portion of the money.

Scott appeared in court, where he admitted to obtaining £45,000 by fraud and was ordered to pay Young compensation of £1,500. In addition, he was placed under supervision for three years and given 150 hours of unpaid work. Despite a plea from prosecutors to ban Scott from contacting Young, the judge rejected the request.

Following the incident, the property was resold for £80,000 by the new owner, leaving Young empty-handed. The case is set for review in September to ensure justice is served.
