Miami’s First Beachfront Shack Sold for Record $5.72m after 60 Years

Miami’s iconic beachfront shack, built by the family of Wallabies great Andrew Slack in 1960, has recently been sold for a staggering $5.72 million, setting a new record for residential house prices in the Gold Coast suburb.

The humble home, situated on a 405 sqm lot on Marine Parade, was originally purchased by investor Surjit Singh for $3.9 million in December 2020. After renovating the interiors and securing a celebrity tenant, Singh decided to put the property back on the market in 2022.

After receiving multiple offers, a Brisbane-based buyer emerged as the top contender and secured the purchase. The buyer plans to build a dream family home at the site, embracing the prime beachfront location.

Amir Prestige agents, Amir Mian and Ben Ada, who marketed the property, noted a surge in interest in beachfront real estate leading up to the sale. Mr. Ada mentioned, “There has been a massive increase in interest over the last quarter. Prices have surged again and we have been seeing record sales throughout the Gold Coast.”

The Miami property, which boasts four bedrooms, two bathrooms, Tasmanian oak hardwood floors, and a large timber deck that overlooks the ocean, holds significant historical value. The Slack family had acquired the land in 1958, making the house a cherished part of the community for over 60 years.

Former Wallabies captain Andrew Slack, a Brisbane native, had captained the team in several Test matches during the 1980s, culminating in a memorable victory against the All Blacks in 1986.

The sale of Miami’s first beachfront shack marks a new chapter in the property’s storied history, highlighting the enduring appeal of coastal living in one of the Gold Coast’s most sought-after locations.
