Airbnb Partners with Pixar to Bring ‘Up’ House to Life for Iconic Stay

Airbnb has announced a groundbreaking partnership that will see the iconic house from the beloved Pixar film ‘Up’ lifted into the air, balloons and all. The whimsical home, suspended over the New Mexico desert, is set to make childhood dreams a reality for lucky guests. This extraordinary experience is part of Airbnb’s new permanent category called “Icons,” featuring partnerships with brands and celebrities to provide unforgettable stays.

The ‘Up’ house will be hoisted into the air with the help of a colossal crane, offering guests a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to stay in a floating replica of the famous movie home. The house is fully functional, with plumbing and electricity connected to generators and utilities managed seamlessly for guests.

This unique offering is part of Airbnb’s strategy to stay relevant in a competitive market, providing extraordinary experiences to guests and drawing attention away from controversies like hidden costs and community disruption. The company expects to see around 4,000 bookings for these Icons listings in 2024 alone, with each stay priced under $100 per guest and allocated through a lottery system.

Other fantastical listings from Airbnb include a two-dimensional replica of the mansion from the “X-Men ’97” cartoon, a stay at the Ferrari Museum in Italy, and the Minneapolis house featured in Prince’s “Purple Rain.” These immersive experiences aim to bring imaginary worlds to life for guests and create unforgettable memories.

Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky expressed excitement about the new Icons category, stating, “Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination — until now. As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world.” With these extraordinary experiences, Airbnb hopes to stay top of mind for users and remain culturally relevant in the ever-changing travel industry.
