Minnesota Supreme Court Reverses Convictions in Plot to Kidnap and Kill Real Estate Agent

The Minnesota Supreme Court has made a groundbreaking decision in the case of the alleged ringleader of a plot to kidnap and kill a real estate agent, overturning his convictions and ordering a new trial. Lyndon Akeem Wiggins, who was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, kidnapping, and other charges in the death of Monique Baugh, will have another chance to prove his innocence.

The Supreme Court cited erroneous legal instructions given to the jury regarding the liability of accomplices as the reason for their decision. This marks the second time the high court has ordered a new trial for a defendant convicted in Baugh’s death, with Elsa Segura also having her convictions overturned due to faulty jury instructions.

Baugh’s tragic death in the early hours of 2020, allegedly part of a complex revenge plot against her boyfriend, Jon Mitchell-Momoh, shook the Minneapolis community. Wiggins, a former music business associate of Mitchell-Momoh and a drug dealer, was said to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping and killing of Baugh, with Segura luring her to a phony home showing where she was abducted.

The Supreme Court’s ruling highlights the importance of proper legal procedures and accurate jury instructions in ensuring fair trials for all defendants. While Wiggins will have the opportunity to present his case once again, the court rejected his argument that the search warrant for his cellphone lacked probable cause.

As the case continues to unfold, the Minnesota Supreme Court’s decision has opened up a new chapter in the pursuit of justice for Monique Baugh and all those affected by her tragic death.
