Controversy in Teaneck Over Informational Meeting on Buying Property in Israel and West Bank

The town of Teaneck, New Jersey is gearing up for a protest this Sunday over an informational meeting promoting the purchase of property in Israel and the occupied West Bank. The event has sparked controversy, with the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations and other pro-Palestinian groups condemning it as a violation of international law and racial discrimination rules.

The event, organized by a private company renting a venue at Congregation Keter Torah, aims to inform local Jews about purchasing properties in Israel and West Bank settlements. However, critics like anti-Zionist resident Rich Siegal have raised concerns about the event enabling discrimination and violating international laws.

Officials in Teaneck have received numerous requests to shut down the event, but have stated that it does not violate any local ordinances or state laws. The town manager, Dean Kazinci, emphasized the importance of maintaining public order and protecting the rights of peaceful demonstrators during the protest.

The controversy has garnered widespread attention, with CAIR’s New Jersey and New York chapters calling for a federal probe into the event and urging people to protest similar meetings in other locations. The situation highlights the sensitive nature of discussions around property purchases in the occupied territories and the complexities of international law in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
