Three Arrested After Police Recover Nearly Half a Million Dollars Worth of Stolen Property

Three people have been charged after a dramatic series of events led to the recovery of nearly half a million dollars worth of stolen property by the RCMP Crime Reduction Team.

It all began with an attempted break-in in the Thorsby area, where a thief shot at a resident, prompting the Thorsby and Breton RCMP to seek assistance from the Crime Reduction Team. Two warrants were obtained for properties in Breton and Parkland County, with plans to execute them on Friday morning.

However, a break-and-enter in Rimbey delayed the execution of the warrants as suspects were spotted returning to the Breton property. During the search, one suspect tried to flee by ramming a police vehicle but was apprehended along with another individual. The search resulted in the discovery of a firearm, suspected drugs, and stolen items from the Rimbey incident.

Further investigation led to the seizure of additional stolen property valued at $120,000 from the Breton property and $320,000 from the Parkland County property. A total of 64 offences have been charged against a 38-year-old individual, while a 37-year-old faces 14 counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and a 41-year-old faces charges of break-and-enter, theft of a firearm, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Among the items seized during the investigation were holiday trailers, snowmobiles, quads, a boat, a hot tub, construction equipment, and multiple vehicle trailers. Police emphasized the importance of securing and insuring property to prevent theft, urging the public to take necessary precautions.

The total value of the recovered property stands at an impressive $440,000, highlighting the successful efforts of law enforcement in combating property theft in the area.
